Recession of the Gums

Recession of the gums exposes the underlying root. Apart from the esthetic issue this creates, there are other more serious implications of recession. The root is more prone to decay, and wear (erosion/abrasion). If there is recession, there is always bone loss around the tooth. The more bone loss, the less anchored the tooth is.
Gum grafting can cover exposed root surfaces protecting them from the above mentioned risks. The gums will be tougher and less prone to recession. The esthetic value is apparent. There is minimal to no scarring involved, and the yellow/brown root color is hidden.

This is just 2 weeks after the procedure….healing is excellent, and the minimal scarring seen here will be completely eliminated within a few more weeks.
